What is SpeakerText?

Have you ever been frustrated when trying to find a specific quote inside of a long video? Or wished that you could search inside of videos? SpeakerText was created to enable people to get more out of the videos they watch, and for video publishers and bloggers to make videos more useful and viral.

What does it cost?

SpeakerText is free to use. You can create as many SpeakerTexts as you want, and either transcribe them yourself or bring transcripts from another source.

We also offer transcription services for purchase (see right). Simply click on the "Purchase Transcription" button below any SpeakerText you have created.

How does SpeakerText integrate with YouTube?

SpeakerText uses the YouTube API to play YouTube videos. Unfortunately, it is not currently possible to SpeakerText private YouTube videos or those for which embedding has been disabled.

You can allow SpeakerText access to your YouTube account, which will let you more easily view your YouTube videos. Visit the My YouTube page to learn more.

Transcription Purchases

Take time to read our full Purchasing Terms of Service. But if you're in a hurry, here are the highlights.

How it Works

Amazon mTurkers transcribe our SpeakerTexts. You will be able to review the transcript before it goes live on the site. If you are not satisfied, we will re-transcribe the video for you at no cost within 7 days.

Cost

Transcription costs $20 per hour, or 33¢ per minute. We round the length up to determine the cost. For example, a video of length 3:30 costs the same amount to transcribe as a 4:00 video.

Account

Your SpeakerText account balance is prepaid in $20 increments. Purchasing transcription debits this balance. You can view your current balance by using the My Account link in the upper right corner, and navigating to the "Account Details" tab.

Auto-Recharge

When your account balance runs low, it must be recharged with another $20 credit. If you choose to disable auto-recharge, you must authorize payment with Amazon each time this occurs.

Payments

SpeakerText uses Amazon.com, a convenient and secure payment processor. If you already have an Amazon account, then you won't even need to re-enter your credit card or bank account number.
